We simply couldn’t fit all the talented fashion designers into our latest Fashion Issue 97, so we saved one of the best for online- the hip designer behind the knitwear brand MaXhosa, Laduma Ngxokolo.
According to him, he wanted to design knitwear that “genuinely depicts my cultural aesthetics”. He was inspired by traditional Xhosa patterns, beadwork, symbolism and colours which he then combined with modern knitwear to create this modern-inspired Xhosa knitwear.
What do you love about your home?
Having the ability to admire the progress of my artworks which fill the space.
How would you describe your decor style?
A contemporary approach- minimalistic and as natural as possible.
What is your favourite furniture piece in your home? Where did you get it, and what does it mean to you?
The sofa that was a gift from my sister, Tina. It’s a second-hand piece that she re-upholstered in a rich velvet. It’s a very sentimental piece which is my escape and island of comfort.
If you could design anything for your home, what would it be?
I would love to design a beautiful temple door covered in detail and meaning.
