As a child, I always helped my mother set the table for dinner parties. I used to love getting the chance to exercise my creative skills, although mum preferred me to use her special china, crystal glasses and antique bone-handle cutlery on a crisp white tablecloth (not forgetting the butter dish with a sprig of parsley on top).
