‘My Green Home’ tells the story of how one South African family change their home to help change the world – and shows how you can too. The Ngewana family are getting a ‘green home makeover’ and will improve their daily habits to show you how to save money and help save the Earth. By participating, you can do the same, and stand the chance of winning wonderful prizes for your own makeover. The aim is to show the positive impact one family can have by living a more energy efficient and environmentally conscious lifestyle.

This website tracks the journey of the Ngewana family, to inform and inspire you and others to take action in your own homes.

The journey of a family who are changing their home to change the world. And you can too.

The Ngewanas are a fun-loving, stylish, clever, successful and open-minded South African family. They want to do what they can for the well-being of our planet, and save money at the same time. By taking on this My Green Home challenge, they are committing to create a greener home and lifestyle and encouraging others to join them. This is their story.

My Green Home is led by the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA), with main co-funding from the German government through the South African-German Energy Programme (SAGEN) as part of the bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Germany. SAGEN is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), an international organisation which supports the German government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. It is also supported by the 49M campaign and the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) as well as a range of product sponsors, partner organisations and collaborators – see Partner page and Sponsored Products page for more detail.
