Somehow, I managed to miss seeing Helvetica, Gary Hustwit’s 2007 documentary about typography and graphic design, but I’ll be sure to be looking out for his brand new documentary, Objectified, due for release in early 2009.

Objectified is all about industrial design, uncovering the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. The website says “it’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.” Sounds like my kinda movie!

So while waiting for the film’s release, make like me and catch up on your required viewing by downloading a digital version of Helvetica on iTunes, and keep up with the movie’s progress at the Objectified website , where Hustwit keeps us updated on the people he’s interviewing (this week he’s in Tokyo, seeing Naoto Fukasawa of plusminuszero) , and read the featured guests’ discussions about objects that inspire them.
