They say Wilderness is the real gem of the Garden Route, well, not only can we agree but we just have to brag about our latest discovery within this little town.

Tucked away amongst the residential homes and mountainous greenery, you’ll stumble across On the Beach, a five-star boutique guesthouse with a spectacular sea view. Situated 400km from Cape Town and directly on the Wilderness beachfront, the boutique guest house is a unique blend of seaside indulgence and relaxed luxury.

Having just recently opened in October 2015, this guesthouse promises to be the new star of the Garden Route hotel scene, with suites following international standards and every modern convenience you can think of.

Boasting 6 south facing, spacious rooms with clear views of the Indian Ocean, and one north facing suite with views of the lush hills behind Wilderness, On the Beach is made for a quiet escape for the discerning traveller or a romantic getaway for the adventurous couple.

Large, glass sliding doors open up to a private balcony, where guests can enjoy an early sunrise before starting their day. If you’re in the mood for a low lit afternoon, thin linen curtains make for a cooler and shaded room. There is nothing that goes unnoticed during this five star experience.

The view directly from the balcony of the 6 south facing suites

The king sized bed accompanied by sateen finish, 400ct Egyptian cotton linen and a light goose-down duvet will ensure a comfortable nights sleep. Each evening after dinner, you can also expect to arrive back to an excellent turn down service.

If your stay is longer than the casual weekend getaway, ample closet space is available to you as well as a vanity equipped with a hairdryer and mirror.

Aware of their carbon footprint, One the Beach have installed eco smart ceiling fans in each room for those warm summer months ahead. The eco friendly biomass pellet boiler provides renewable energy for the underfloor heating system and also supplies hot water for all bathrooms.

You are offered the usual tea and coffee facility that comes along with any accommodation, but we just have to stress the importance of the Nespresso machines that have been placed in each room, accompanied by a selection of three different flavours, proving that this is not just your average guesthouse. If you’re anything like the DECO team, this makes the world of difference to an early morning.

If you enjoy making yourself at home while traveling, the ensuite bathrooms will be right up your alley. A free standing bath and rain shower complete with Africology shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, comes standard in each suite.

Toasted ciabatta with smoked salmon and fresh rocket, topped with two poached eggs and creamy hollandaise sauce.

Your first meal of the day will stem much further than any average hotel spread. When you sit down for breakfast, on the deck, prepare yourself for a three course experience.

Starting off with a buffet of fresh fruit and juices accompanied by Greek style yoghurt and homemade granola. Ted, your host for the morning, will then request your main meal order. Yes, you’re read that correctly. Choose between a a platter of locally produced cheeses and sliced meats, a three egg omelette, a traditional South African breakfast or sublime Eggs Benedict with your choice of smoked salmon or Parma ham. Finish off your meal with a freshly baked, mini croissant and a selection of local preserves, and raw fynbos honey.

After breakfast be sure to include a walk along the Wilderness beach as the deck leads down to a private staircase directly in to the golden sands.
