We love meeting fun new people at DECO and we love it even more when they join our team!  So you can imagine our excitement when we recently welcomed Estee Kershoff as our new Managing Editor. This lovely lady will be keeping us in line and making things happen here at DECO HQ. But before she starts cracking the whip, we sat her down for a little Q&A.

What is your greatest extravagance? Free time

What is your favourite part of your home? The kitchen, I love to cook and bake. I also enjoy a sunny spot on the couch with a good book and glass of wine.

What is on your decor wish list at the moment? Far too many things! We just bought a house, so the list is very long. But, at the top would be: Glass “Bell” pendant lights by Marcel Wanders for Moooi, a SubOkavango 02 print by photographer Roger Horrocks, which celebrates the fantastical dreamlike quality of underwater plants in the Okavango Delta and a tobacco-hued “Harp” lounge chair by Roda at Marlanteak.

How would you describe Elle Deco Magazine? Cool, creative and inspiring.

Favourite flower/plant? Swoon-inducing big floppy flowers: poppies, tea roses, hydrangeas.

Liquorice or fudge?  Salted macadamia nougat from Ma Mere Maison in Salt River

What did you study and where? I studied BA PPE (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) at Stellenbosch University.

Who or what has the most significant influence on your design interests? My mom; her motto has also been less is more and she’s fantastic at finding great, antique pieces at bargain prices.

Anything else you feel like sharing with the readers? Cool info we should know about you? If I could be any animal, I’d be a penguin. I never step on sea shells and spend the largest part of my time in the pool saving drowning lady bugs.
