Even if you are not too familiar with the legendary musical icon, Prince, you would have probably come across his hit song Purple Rain. Since its release, the colour purple has been closely tied to the famed musician but it comes as a pleasant surprise that Pantone has created a special hue in honour of him.
Pantone is the company behind the official colour of the year and this honourary hue is a collaboration with Prince’s estate. The shade is named Love Symbol #2, a nickname by fans given to describe symbol that Prince changed his name to in 1993. The specific purple hue was taken from Prince’s Yamaha piano which the musician was set to take on tour with him before his passing.“We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one,’” said Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
This official Pantone purple hue will be replicable and consistent maintaining the legacy of Prince as is with his music.
