In the August issue of ELLE DECORATION –dubbed our women in design issue – we headed to the historical Johannesburg Art Gallery where we shot a beautiful portraiture series featuring women in art.

Women have always been involved in forms of artistic expression. As curators, collectors, auctioneers, historians and academics, they play an important role in shaping ways in which we think about and experience the arts, both within and outside of traditional institutions.

Featured within this piece were 13 female experts in their field, working in and around the art world as curators, advisors, auctioneers, historians, and academics. See what happened when we gathered some of the country’s most influential female figures in the art world in one space. Watch the video below to find out more about their powerful work.

Included in the video is:

Gaisang Sathekge – the Exhibitions & Events Curator at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg
Chumisa Ndakisa – an independent curator
Dr. Same Mdluli – artist, art writer and historian (read more about Mdluli’s stylish life HERE.)
