Our Summer Issue No. 87 looks at the pop-up trend, showcasing the top of the pop-ups both in South Africa and globally.
And here’s another one: World Design Capital Helskinki’s 2012 main exhibition, ‘Everyday Discoveries’ which popped up in the Finnish capital last September. Solutions by hundreds of designers from 23 countries got showcased. We love the colours, the ideas, the looks.

‘Everyday Discoveries – International Design House Exhibition’ offers concrete examples of design solutions that different countries have for the same everyday situations. In addition to the indoor exhibition space in Suvilahti, the exhibition also spread to the outdoor container village, where each country had its own stall.  Visitors could experience a North American children’s play park, try out Irish hurling, or find out about British gardening, among many other things. Finland’s exhibition presented design solutions for the extreme northern conditions.

A signature event of World Design Capital, ‘Everyday Discoveries – International Design House Exhibition’ is a mandatory part of the programme for every city selected as World Design Capital. Can’t wait to see what pops up at the Cape Town World Design Capital event in 2014.
