Follow us as we challenge top interiors brands to join forces in creating six of the hottest décor looks this year. Combining their unique elements, watch as the #RoomSeries unfolds in every issue. This time: create the perfect warm winter look at home.
We’re thrilled to unveil our second edition of the #RoomSeries challenge, featured in our latest Winter Issue 102. We always work with the best in the business, which is why we chose Dulux, Belgotex Floors and Coricraft furniture to get together and be creative.
The goal was to create a warm winter look. Photographed by Justin Patrick and styled by Ilana Swanepoel, the final result can be found in our magazine, but as an added bonus for our online readers here we take you behind-the-scenes with an exclusive look at how it came together.
From a whole range of tantalising colours available from the Dulux paint collection, we chose the Rich Matt Sapphire Springs 2 for its vibrant electric blue. Softer than cobalt and warmer than navy, it was a bold choice for a wintry room that reflected the shade of the season, without darkening the space.
As well as being supremely stain resistant, we picked from the Rich Matt range because of its high coverage that hides a multitude of imperfections on the surface beneath (being fully washable, it’s practical too). Shades of indigo have worked their way throughout our Winter Issue, warming things up for a beautiful read, so make sure you take a look.
Bringing the room together, we relied on the luxurious VOGUE Carpet from Belgotex Floors. Picking from the VOGUE range was a treat for the DECO team in preparing the space for winter because of the luxurious, deep-pile quality (from the SDX soft collection, with modern hi-tech yarn technology that makes it feel super soft underfoot but super strong and durable) just what you want on cold winter days.
Sometimes when shopping for carpets and rugs, we find we have to sacrifice a vibrant colour palette for quality, upmarket finish – not so here. From the bold, intensified colourfast colours that Belgotex Floors’ yarn technology offer us, we chose the dusky blue Polo shade – complementing our sapphire walls, whilst still reflecting our wintry theme.
Once our walls were dry and our carpet laid in place, it was time to furnish our cosy living room. We scoured Coricraft’s latest range for furnishings and décor accessories that offered both aesthetic and literal warmth. From the rich tan of the Chobe 2-seater Couch to the woven finish of the Lombok Baskets, natural textures in earthy browns grounded the surrounding cool blue hues – reflecting our Karoo-inspired seasonal palette that you can see in our Winter issue.
To bring the colours together, we combined the blues and browns in soft furnishings – Vogue scatter cushions in a washed geometric print and knitted throws to keep guests cosy by the fire. Finishing the look on a contemporary note, we introduced on-trend industrial textures with Coricraft’s Iron Rectangular Tray Table topped with assorted glassware, including the statement Tall Wonky Bottle, keeping the rustic furnishings modern and fresh.
