My online German-English dictionary tells me that the word schubladen means “pigeonhole” in German, and it’s the perfect name for design studio SchubLaden , who do the most amazing things with old office pigeonholes, filing cabinets and drawers.

Using drawers both big and tiny from old and salvaged furniture, SchubLaden studio re-makes new pieces, laden with history and battered charm. My German’s not up to much, but if I had to attempt an inept sentence in that language, I’d probably say something like SchubLaden ist wunderbar!

Visit the SchubLaden site to see more of these lovely pieces, or if you’re off to Germany soon, plan a visit to their store in Berlin-Kreuzberg´s Graefedistrict.
