While Shimmy Beach Club is famous for its summertime decadence, this winter, Cape Town’s premier luxury lifestyle destination is keeping it hot in the kitchen with two new warming menus in time for winter.
Having recently appointed Adrian Cook as its new Executive Chef, the new menu promises to bring even more passion and flavour to the destination’s already-renowned table. The stellar new Mid-Year Menu is complete with top-class fine cuisine, light dishes, sushi, pizzas and inspired combinations in time for winter.
In his career, Chef Adrian has worked in numerous high-end restaurants around the country including the likes of the Cape Grace, Aldo’s, the Premiere at the Arabella Sheraton, The Cradle (at Cradle of Mankind in Johannesburg), and Bon Amis (at Bloemendal Estate).
High-quality produce that speaks for itself has always been the Shimmy way. All too often, winter-time food is drab and stodgy. At Shimmy, we are changing this perception with a winter menu as vibrant as our summer selection,” says Executive Chef, Adrian Cook on his culinary philosophy for the cooler months.
Bespoke entrées include oysters au natural with sherry and pickled-onion marmalade; Cape korma singelair or creamed miso and garlic mussels, as well as Shimmy’s Ritz; baby calamari with a choice of garlic, chilli or lemon and herb sauces; and chicken livers flambada with corn bread, among others.
Taking advantage of its shimmering ocean’s edge location, Shimmy’s seafood menu presents choice selections of hake, salmon, lobster, prawns, Kingklip and tuna, with tagliata, lemon butter, coconut chimichurri, Cape korma sauce options to enhance and compliment the flavours of the sea.
As always, Shimmy’s famous sushi menu will be on offer, combining age-old Japanese techniques and flavours with the unique contemporary twist that makes this selection a perennial favourite with local and international aficionados alike.
Tasty pasta and pizza selections abound – ranging from Shimmy’s own take on the Margarita to flavoursome fusions like The Indian, with roast chicken, raw korma, cucumber and coconut rhaita.
Meat-lovers will enjoy top quality prime sirloin, rib-eye or fillet steaks cooked to perfection, as well as classics like surf and turf Espetada, and braised springbok shank with rosemary, basil and parmesan polenta.
Scintillating social dining also awaits Pool Deck guests, who can choose from a selection of barbeque chicken wings, succulent pork ribs, sushi, spring rolls, thin melt-in-your mouth pastry wafers, spicy samosas and more. For the really healthy at heart, Greek, Caprese, tuna Niçoise and chicken salads make for refreshing winter afternoon snacking.
The Kiddies Menu will keep smaller tummies full with tasty treats like Alfredo or Napolitano pasta, Hawaiian pizza, burgers, crispy chicken strips and hake goujons.
Leave a little room for dessert, as the spectacular selection for the sweet tooth includes caramelised pecan nuts and chocolate fudge sauce, baked chocolate mousse cake, angels food coupe, and apple and buttermilk upside-down cake.
