Its’s true! European furniture, home and lifestyle brand habitat is opening its first pop-up store at Cape Town’s V & A Waterfront on 20th October 2015. Not sure what the fuss is all about? What is this ‘habitat’ and who this Sir Terence Conran? Allow us to enlighten you…
What is useful can be beautiful and what is beautiful affordable. – Sir Terence Conran
- 1964: Terence Conran opened the first habitat store in London. Habitat brought in modern and trendy furniture, developed the idea of collections, blended furniture and home accessories, and introduced self-service.
- 1984: Terence Conran became Sir Terence Conran. His triumphant vision of democratic design led to his being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
- 1998: designer Tom Dixon was appointed Director of Design and revived the spirit of creativity and innovation so dear to Terence Conran.
In a nutshell, habitat will help you to decorate your interiors with beautiful and innovative products that will complete your look. Their latest collection celebrates the ‘eclectic energy of large cities’.
What can you expect?
“From minimalist to curvy, you’ll find hints of metal, paper, resin, glass, wood and steel in their range and can expect unusual themes in their tabletop category like marble inspired porcelain dinnerware. Handmade is their hero for 2015 with hand dipped wire and reactive glaze ceramics to hand woven construction and artisan textiles taking centre stage. Seagrass, bamboo, pewter and glass are used in innovative and unexpected ways and their seasonal colour palette pitches fluoro brights alongside new neutral shades.”
