South African illustration
KISS-ME-QUICK-AND-GO-MY-HONEY, illustration by Piet Grobler

The Tina Skukan Gallery in Pretoria hosts a showcase of South African illustration this weekend entitled KISS-ME-QUICK-AND-GO-MY-HONEY (and other stories).

Each of the nine illustrators’ work is diverse and reflect a range of backgrounds and fields of interest and expertise including picture books, editorial illustration, academic teaching, graphic design, printmaking and painting.

In addition to their own ‘other stories,’ each responded to the title KISS-ME-QUICK-AND-GO-MY-HONEY with pictures of loss, love, longing, nonsense and suspense – showing that meaning is never fixed, but always in the process of being created through the artist’s, and viewer’s, consideration of different contexts.

The exhibition will be opened on Sunday October 21 at 11:30am by Piet Grobler, award-winning illustrator and visiting professor in Illustration at the University of Worcester in the  United Kingdom and a performance by Linki Lutz.

The exhibition will run until November 14.

Participating illustrators include Piet Grobler, Adrie le Roux, Alida Bothma, Catherine Holtzhausen, Dale Blankenaar, Imile WepenerLinki Lutz, Maria Lebedeva, and Marike le Roux.
