Located in the vibey business and entertainment area of inner-city Cape Town, Skinny Laminx, once a greasy scooter repair shop and now a retail destination for the finest bespoke homeware, has re-gone a facelift that gives clients a more immersive retail experience.
The newly improved space incorporates the store’s expansion into the social scene, with events such as First Thursday attracting large crowds to Bree Street and its surrounds, it was time to expand after 6 years. Assisting in the revamp of the shop is respected interior design expert Robert Sherwood responsible for the chic Maison Mara concept store and Gerard Back of MILA Design Studio who both collaboratively expanded the store to double its original size.
New features give the store a distinct sophistication, however, this metamorphosis does not sacrifice the store’s boldness and familiarity. The extended space allows a full view of the store interior, an addition that compels people to enter the shop, beyond just gazing at its already aesthetically pleasing facade. Skinny Laminx’s bespoke stable of homeware and goods includes curtains, pillows, wallpapers, upholstered furniture, made-to-order lampshades, fabrics as well as vintage finds and pottery curated by Heather Moore, founder of Skinny Laminx.
We recommend that you visit the store yourself to fully get a sense of what makes Skinny Laminx tré cool.
