In our latest Country Issue #90, we feature a couple of tablescapes which illustrate how to capture the quiet magic of the outdoors using its powerful colours and various other things that you can find in your surroundings.

Our Veld table feature didn’t make it into the magazine as we had too many great things to include and not enough space (gentle boast), but it is certainly a brilliant way to dine alfresco.

To recreate this tactile outdoor dining experience simply get hold of a heavy raw linen table cloth and gather together a selection of oversized ceramics, glassware, basketry and wooden utensils. Tree stumps are the perfect solution for stools.

Collect Wild mushrooms, bark and leaves and whatever else tickles your fancy, and place them in baskets to decorate the table instead of flowers.

Watch this space tomorrow for more on mushrooms….
