This inspired us to look at how we can use raw honey in other areas. Honey has been used as a beauty product for centuries, but somehow we have completely forgotten about its incredible powers!

HERE ARE SOME QUICK FACTS ON HONEY:

Honey is very soothing, hydrating and moisturising.

Its anti-bacterial properties make it an excellent cleanser for acne.

Honey has a bleaching effect and can dramatically fade old or new scars.

Rich in antioxidants, you can delay the ageing process by making honey a part of your healthy diet.

Honey has anti-inflammatory properties which helps calm eczema.

The enzyme glucose oxidase in honey slowly releases hydrogen peroxide, an ingredient known to lighten hair colour.

 


Homemade Honey Products:

Honey Cleansing Scrub

1 Tablespoon honey
2 Tablespoons finely ground almonds
1/2 Teaspoon lemon juice
Rub gently onto face. Rinse off with warm water.

Firming & Moisturising Face Mask

1 Tablespoon honey
1 Egg white, 1 teaspoon glycerine (available at drug and beauty stores)
Enough flour to form a paste (approximately 1/4 cup)
Smooth over face and throat. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Smoothing Skin Lotion

1 Teaspoon honey
1 Teaspoon vegetable oil
1/4 Teaspoon lemon juice
Rub onto hands, elbows and heels. Leave on 10 minutes. Rinse off with water.

Skin Softening Bath

Add 1/4 cup honey to bath water for a fragrant, silky bath.

Hair Shine

 1 Teaspoon honey
4 Cups warm water.
(Blondes may wish to add a squeeze of lemon)
After shampooing, rub mixture onto hair. Do not rinse out. Dry as normal.


Historical Honey Beauty Secrets

1/ Madame du Barry the infamous mistress of Louis XV, used honey as a facial mask.

 2/ Cleopatra regularly took honey and milk baths to maintain her youthful appearance.

 3/ Queen Anne of England used honey and oil to keep her hair healthy and shiny.

4/ Chinese women traditionally use a blend of honey and ground orange seeds to keep their skin blemish-free.
