Founded by designers, bottle-up is a foundation with a mission to up cycle tourists waste and turn it into beautiful, functional products. 



Tourism is a huge market in Zanzibar but it comes at a cost – an increasing number of glass waste that gets left behind long after the holidaymakers have returned home. Given the severe impact this has on the island environment, bottle-up aims to raise awareness about recycling and up cycling of glass.

They recently debuted their collection, Trending Terrazzo – products are formed using discarded objects found on the island, giving them a new functional purpose. For example, a metal wok became the base of a table, and a piece of iron acted as a mold for the leg of a table. This “new” furniture then finds a new home in the hotels of Zanzibar. To learn more about the process watch the video below:
