Sven Alberding, Creative Director of Bureaux and DECO contributor, has created a tropical hothouse in his Cape Town balcony – an ode to his travels to South America and beyond. His balcony is alive with palms, delicious greens and creepers, as well as a most impressive carnivorous pitcher plant, endemic to South America – also known as Monkey Cups!  Have a look…

Sven bought his monkey cups (above) from Jacques Erasmus at Hemelhuijs. The kentia palms (top & below) were bought from a nursery in the Garden Route. Sven first encountered these palms on a visit to Lord Howe Island, off the East Coast of Australia. The granadilla creeper and bromeliad, below, (spot its pink tips!) are also endemic to South America.
