Last week we celebrated the launch of Poltrona Frau’s flagship store in Cape Town. And we had reason to celebrate. This year also marks the 100th anniversary of this iconic luxury brand. Coming from solid Italian origins with an international reach, Poltrona Frau has become a global leader in the luxury design industry – a point of reference for luxurious comfort. Founded in 1912, Poltrona Frau has been refining its sophisticated expertise in hand-crafted workmanship through 100 years of history. This expertise, perfected through time, continues to be passed down by master craftsmen from generation to generation. Today, a century on, this heritage of knowledge and skill is captured within each piece of Poltrona Frau furniture.
Poltrona Frau has become a highly recognisable presence in a number of sectors including residential, office, as well as interiors for aeroplanes, yachts, helicopters, trains and cars. The showroom display also includes a Ferrari seat, highlighting the expertise of the Interiors in Motion division, which together with Pelle Frau® leather furnishes the interiors of the most prestigious international automobiles.
At the Poltrona Frau showroom the great classics, such as the iconic Vanity Fair (top image) and Intervista (above), sit freely alongside contemporary forms and furnishings such as the Archibald chair (below), in collaboration with Italian and international designers such as Pierluigi Cerri, Achille Castiglioni, Michele De Lucchi, Jean-Marie Massaud, Emilio Ambasz and Lella and Massimo Vignelli. The uniqueness of shape, the beauty of the materials and the preciousness of the hand-crafted work are the distinctive traits that make each piece of furniture unique.
The Poltrona Frau brand has always identified items destined to last over time, whose form, design, comfort, quality and duration are expressed in a blend of prestige. Carefully selected materials treated and worked as only Poltrona Frau knows how. Exquisitely natural materials such as goose down, leather, wood, fabrics, alongside highly innovative materials that are the result of constant research. All Poltrona Frau creations are hand-made, one by one, with the artisan knowledge that has been handed down over time, constantly refined in order to obtain the best result possible every time. Every single cut, stitch, nail, hammered in by hand, every single method used bears witness to the product’s truly unique nature.
