It’s wedding season.
After seeing Kelly and Alfie’s big fat green wedding, we’ve become so attuned to the joys of a good wedding party.
The early spring wedding of Janus and Hannah van der Merwe happened in the garden of the Van der Merwe family home in Pretoria. Many of the charming elements of style were courtesy of a helping hand from Team DECO’s Inge van der Merwe, the groom’s sister, who also looks after the design of this very blog.
When the couple approached the mother of the groom, they had not the faintest idea how they’d squeeze 120 guests into the garden. After eight months, a friend in the building business (who sealed off the pool using special construction methods) two families, extended families and friends from all over the world pulling together, they got the venue ready for a crowd of 120. It took three days.
“There were a lot of meetings,” says Inge, with a wry smile.
It was worth it. They had the perfect garden wedding in the garden where Janus grew up, at Glyn Lane, Hatfield, Pretoria.
