Next time you’re planning an all-day shopping trip, make sure you check out The Kitchen, a recently-launched bistro on the top floor of Weylandts’ flagship Durbanville store.

We fell instantly in love with the cosy, modern eatery, with its comfortable leather couches, roaring fireplace, gorgeous black walls and raw wood accents. Plus, look out for the striking chair chandelier designed by – another example of how the upcycling trend is catching on.

On the menu? Accomplished young chef Charlene Pretorius serves up honest, simple food with a culinary flair. We were lucky enough to sample Cape Malay fish cakes with gooseberry chutney, seared lamb caponata on artisan bread, and an oh-so-decadent chocolate brownie. Washed down with a glass of Maison Shiraz from owner Chris Weylandts’ wine farm in Franschhoek, it’s the perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.

As a brand extension of leading home retailer Weylandts, The Kitchen is one of our favourite new design-inspired food spots. We’re hoping it’ll make its way to Weylandts’ other outlets, too.
